“That is why we have concentrated on what has not been done, even if the conditions exist to do it,” said the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and Prime Minister of the Republic, Manuel Marrero Cruz, at the conclusion of the third government visit. to the province of Avila, which on Thursday and Friday examined programs, objectives and work projections, as well as actions to correct distortions and re-boost the economy.

Accompanied by three vice prime ministers, 11 ministers and another dozen central level officials, in a plenary session also chaired by the territory’s highest political and administrative authorities, Marrero Cruz referred to the complex war economy scenario that imposes objective limitations such as lack of fuel and foreign currency, which impact performance at all levels.

“We have more than enough justifications to sit back and wait for solutions to fall from the sky, but that’s not what it’s about,” the premier insisted.

His words alluded directly to what he saw during the tour, for example, in the Primero de Enero municipality, where, although he expressed admiration for how the main town, once the central batey, is maintained, and for the industrious spirit that he observed in the century-old sugar factory – which has saved its honor in the current harvest by grinding quite efficiently, even without having initially planned its grinding – also criticized the conditions of the nursing home.

The deficiencies detected in the care center, added to those identified in a similar institution in Camagüey in recent days, motivated Marrero Cruz to reflect on how much more can be done to dignify the old age of these people. “We cannot sleep peacefully if we do not know what is happening in these centers.”

Their concern for living conditions and the quality of food will lead to the mandate that the local governments of the country review these and other issues in depth in all social centers, such as maternal homes, homes for children without family protection, grandparents’ homes. , homeless and educational centers.

As part of the concluding session of the third government visit, the vice prime ministers Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, Inés María Chapman Waugh and Jorge Luis Perdomo Di Lella, summarized the impressions of the tours and presented the indications that must be accompanied by a plan of measures to solve the problems detected.

Tapia Fonseca, for example, emphasized the agri-food program, where food contracting processes are decisive. He again analyzed, in that scenario, the deficiencies in the delivery of meat and milk, both lines unfulfilled at the close of the first quarter of the year; the theft and slaughter of livestock; land use; non-payment to producers; and the completion of livestock modules in all production bases.

“Check the statistics and verify on the ground that they are true, because the people do not eat statistics,” he said, with his well-known eloquence.

According to the report presented by Governor Alfre Menéndez Pérez, the province grows in some indicators compared to the same stage of the previous year, but remains below if we look at the plan approved for 2024. This is the case with exports, a decisive program for when it comes to the foreign currency that the country needs for its development. In others, such as the housing program, it “carries” non-compliance from one period to another, and we are talking about people’s roof.

That is why Marrero Cruz reiterated more than once that “the fight is won on the ground,” telling political and administrative leaders to go down to the base and interact with the people as the best tool to govern.

“We have seen progress, but we have to do different things, because these are different times. Identify the obstacles, the distortions, and go up.”
