The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, visited sites of economic interest in the province of Ciego de Ávila, as part of the tours established by the Government to boost the economy.
According to information from Presidency Cuba in X, the president toured the Avila municipality of Chambas, located in the northwest of that province.
On this date, the meeting with the people of the land was unavoidable for the president, so his tour began by congratulating the workers of the Jesús Menéndez agricultural production cooperative regarding Farmer’s Day, said the Cuban Presidency.
This production center, made up of more than 70 partners, along with twenty employees, generates profits that allow it to distribute a monthly average of about 15,000 pesos of income to each worker.
The leader of the collective, Yaikel Castellanos, reflected on the need to diversify productions.
The CPA has assumed, as part of its social responsibility, food support, with various crops, meat and milk, to day care centers, schools, nursing homes and other institutions of great social sensitivity, highlighted the Cuban Presidency.
The program also included a visit to the Raúl Cervantes rice mill, in the town of Falla, in the territory itself, where the president exchanged with Juan Carlos Balmaseda, director of the Máximo Gómez agroindustrial grain company.
This Brazilian technology dryer, with a capacity for 30,000 tons per year, is projected to dry only 5,800 tons in 2024, due to the low supply of grain from the production bases, affected by the severe economic limitations facing the country.
Díaz-Canel inquired about the prospects for increasing the grain harvest, the first condition for the dryer to reach its potential, a purpose that can be achieved taking into account that in the area there is a vocation for rice, water, culture of cultivation and desire for do, stated the information from the Cuban Presidency.
The 20th Anniversary stone mill, the nerve center of the Chambas quarry, the main one in Ciego de Ávila, was another of the economic centers visited by the Cuban president.
There, construction materials such as artificial sand, gravel, granite, stone dust and stone base are produced and sold, intended for local development projects, the housing program and roads.
The president highlighted the potential of a solid entity and called for seeking alternative energy solutions from renewable energy sources, such as the possibility of installing a 1 MW photovoltaic park, sufficient to cover demand.
According to the Presidency, Díaz-Canel called to continue developing self-consumption, the repair of homes for the entity’s workers and other services that guarantee job stability and stimulate a group that is essential for the development of the municipality of Chambas.
At the beginning of 2024, the president visited three other Avilanian municipalities: Baraguá, Ciro Redondo and Morón.
