With the 774 seedlings planted on June 27, there are already 1,174 established in the Dunas de Playa Pilar Outstanding Natural Element protected area, as part of the actions carried out by the project “Rehabilitation of coastal dunes in the Jardines del Rey archipelago: alternative for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

This was published on its institutional social networks by the Center for Environmental Engineering and Biodiversity (Ciba), the scientific entity in charge of this important action of restoration and conservation of the flora in that natural and tourist enclave.

The species established in the place were conceived in a small nursery, through the technology of reproduction in tubes, and with the use of various substrates (sand, earthworm humus and algae) that stimulate the development and growth of the postures.

A similar action had been carried out at the beginning of the month, in greeting to the World Environment Day, when 400 postures of mate de costa (Cannavalia rosea) were planted.

CIBA specialists insist that the vegetation makes it possible to retain the sand, thus favoring the conservation of the dunes, so that this element can provide essential services such as protection against extreme hydrometeorological events, by dissipating the energy of waves and strong winds. ; in addition to reserving sediments and protecting numerous species of animals.
