The tourist destination Jardines del Rey, one of the most important in the country, shows sustained levels of visitors compared to the number achieved before COVID-19.
Iyolexis Correa Lorenzo, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in the province of Avila, stated exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that, thanks to the professionalism of the work team that complied with the protocols established by the country’s health authorities, this emporium, privileged with fine sand beaches, remained open during the pandemic with a safe service, adjusted to the demands of the moment.
The destination reinvented itself in that hard and sad stage of the contagious disease, which allowed it to close 2023 with a four percent growth in its tourists and attract new air operations compared to 2019, said Correa Lorenzo.
She praised the initiatives and inventiveness of the sector workers in Ciego de Ávila to update their tourism products and renew the hotel plant, since in the months of low occupancy they suffered deterioration.
The development in the keys of northern Ciego de Avila today has a potential of 28 hotel facilities, with about 24,000 rooms and with real opportunities to increase that number.
The area, formed by the Coco, Guillermo, Paredón Grande and Antón Chico keys, has intensified the assurance of the non-hotel offer to guarantee that the attractions are not only sun and beach products, and nautical products, but also that those who visit have the opportunity to enjoy nature tourism and knowledge of the cultural heritage of the cities near the enclave.
Jardines del Rey, with more than 30 years in the leisure industry, recently hosted the 42nd edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024), a profitable opportunity in terms of new commercial possibilities, and which made it possible to search for a greater number of flights towards the destination.
