Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, made a working visit to the Avilanian municipality of Ciro Redondo, to check programs of vital importance for the socioeconomic life of the territory.

Through his account on the social network: “In the previous tour we visited successful experiences throughout the country. Now we go to places where things don’t work so well to, together, look for solutions. #PeopleQueSuma”.

The president was at the Bioelectric Plant, adjacent to the Ciro Redondo power plant, with a generation capacity of 60 megawatts, but which is currently undergoing an oil filtering process.

Specialists explained that, once the harvest was over, energy continued to be generated from the bagasse left over from the mixture with the marabou, and in the months of August and September the operation was restarted with a boiler.

Subsequently, several breakdowns have been faced, until reaching the current moment; However, the intentions of linking with the National Electroenergy System and with the harvest remain, once the difficulties of oil contamination and the subsequent start-up have been resolved, said Ariel Díaz Román, general manager for the Cuban part of the Bioelectric Company. In this regard, Díaz-Canel recommended carrying out an investigation into the causes that have prevented the investment from yielding the expected results in three years. “We have lost three years, develop a program with the solutions, I will call day by day,” he stressed.

The president and the delegation also traveled to the Alfredo R. Pérez torula yeast factory, attached to the Base Business Unit (UEB) of Derivatives, adjacent to the Ciro Redondo plant, which is in charge of producing, in addition to torula in cream and dry, the so-called torulín, phytomas, protein honey, ice and plastic drums.

Directors of the entity explained that they currently produce concentrated phytomas, with a high percentage of nitrogen, which also allows them to reduce the amount of packaging to be used.

The President was interested in the export possibilities of the product and how much financing would be required to renew productions, start the factory at its full capacity and reverse the amount used in a short time.

The delegation was also at the Ciro Redondo García Reproduction Center of Entomophages and Entomopathogens, whose fundamental line is the production and release of the Lixophaga fly, with the purpose of protecting sugar cane.

There, the head of the collective, Jaqueline Pereira Sánchez, explained that her 15 workers take on a total of seven production lines.

Thanks to the Center’s contributions, last year four applications of Lixophaga were made to the plantations of the Ciro Redondo Sugar Industrial Company aimed at combating Bórer, the main pest that affects the grass. Lixophaga is its natural enemy and is highly appreciated in times where pesticides and chemical fertilizers are scarce.

Summarizing the meeting at the end of the visit, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, highlighted that there are leaders and groups that manage to overcome the blockade and do good things.

What we want, he said, is to unleash a style of work that can inspire us and give us growth, based on good experiences.

He reflected on what Bioelectricity means for the country and, however, it still does not work, it is buried money because it has not contributed what was expected. We need it to work, he stressed.
