As part of the Sabana-Camagüey project, of which the Coastal Ecosystem Research Center, CIEC, of Cayo Coco, north of the Avilanian municipality of Morón, is a part, the marine and terrestrial environments report benefits, after the severe effects caused by the hurricane Irma, although with signs of slow recovery due to the effects of climate change.
Environmental monitoring in natural and anthropized ecosystems stands out, and the provision of scientific-technical and environmental consulting services, as well as
joint work with the Ministry of Tourism in the application of management plans that respond to the care and preservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of recreational activities.
Likewise, research continues on the quality of water, both wastewater, coastal lagoons and beach areas, a fundamental element to determine the well-being of biodiversity and the development of tourist activity.
A new project also stands out in Jardines de la Reina, in the south of the province of Avila, after its declaration as Blue Park, where several expeditions stand out with international support and in conjunction with the Marine Research Center of the University of Havana.
