Despite the effect of pests and the scarcity of fertilizers and other inputs necessary to guarantee a good harvest, the municipality of Morón in Ciego de Avila is working to increase grain production levels, according to statements by Froilán Luna Viamontes, president of the National Association of Small Farmers in the territory.
According to the manager, along with beans, work is being done to grow corn and guarantee its presence in the Moronero markets for most of the year, while rice production is increasing, mainly in the Loma Ciega areas. and Nereida, whose lands are suitable for planting cereals.
Adds Luna Viamontes, that another of the lines of work is related to the promotion of fruit trees, mainly mango, guava and bomba fruit, without neglecting less widespread fruits such as cherimoya, anon, soursop, among others.
These are some of the actions that seek to satisfy the food needs of the Moroneros through local self-sufficiency, with an eye on achieving food sovereignty, today more necessary than ever, due to the economic situation that the country is going through.
