The harmful effect of alcohol consumption served as the topic for the exchange with eighth grade students from the Benito Juárez educational institution, from the municipality of Morón in Ciego de Avila, eager for knowledge and eager for a timely and frank debate with Enrique Dámaso Rodríguez, a friend of the Territorial Society of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Sergio Antuña library, in the city of El Gallo, served as the venue for the meeting, which from now on every two months will bring together adolescents, young people and adults interested in what many consider a vice and which is actually a disease, according to Notes from the World Health Organization.
Alcoholism and Community constitutes the fixed space for the cultural institution with dissimilar proposals aimed at debate and exchange in order to raise awareness among people about what the bad habit of excessively ingesting alcoholic beverages means, as a psychoactive substance with properties that cause dependence.
Previously and for more than eight years, Enrique Dámaso held the meetings at the Simón Reyes Provincial Museum, in Ciego de Ávila, which served as the basis for bringing to his homeland an experience that transmits values, sensitizes and educates.
It has been shown that when alcohol “imposes” in the lifestyle, the social norms of consumption are violated, biological, psychological or social damage is determined; the freedom to decide is lost and consumption is maintained despite obvious damage or personal attempts to quit.
