The International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2024, which was hosted at the Jardines del Rey destination at the beginning of May, allowed new economic actors from Avila to consolidate projects with the strategic sector, with established companies such as Beverages and Soft Drinks, Acopio or Frutas Selectas creating alliances and At the same time, local entrepreneurs.
Leonel Duarte Pla, general director of the Carnes D’Tres MSME, is categorical in stating that “tourism, we believe, will be a key pillar in our economic sustainability. The mere fact of preparing for a meeting of this magnitude gives us the opportunity to consolidate ourselves and grow. For FITCuba we launched products that we did not have in our portfolio, we created a communication strategy and, on the other hand, we managed to establish first conversations with hotels in the keys that show interest in our products.”
Result of the International Tourism Fair and in order to bring everything that is proposed to reality, Carnes D’Tres will have to expand its production capacity. Currently, it has 250 breeders, more than double that of a year ago and barely half of the objective to end 2024. “With 500 breeders, our daily production would rise to 4.5 tons of live pigs and between 10 or 12 of byproducts,” assured Durate Pla.
Although pork will continue to be the leading product, the general director stated that among the MSME’s plans are the raising of poultry (laying hens) and, in a perhaps more distant future, cattle.
Likewise, the Moreno Delavida Local Development Project (PDL), which focuses on producing artisanal and natural cosmetics: soaps, creams and a range of household cleaning products, has its chain in the keys.
For Las Margaritas, a PDL with a practice distant from Delavida: livestock, participating in FITCuba has an added purpose to that of inserting its productions into tourism, announced Maite Cruz Hidalgo and Israel Rodríguez Ríos, the couple at the head of the venture.
The Las Margaritas farm called for the II “Quesos del Rey” Festival, a space to compete and, at the same time, promote the quality of the national cheese industry. It is scheduled to be held in the northern keys of Ciego de Avila from October 3 to 6 of this year, with Mexico as the guest of honor.
