The willingness of the workers at the Cayo Coco Dolphinarium to continue perfecting the management of natural resources and developing sustainable tourism in Jardines del Rey was confirmed during a working visit by Avilanian specialists in environmental management.

During the exchange of directors and specialists of that recreational center with experts from the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) in Ciego de Ávila, the Environmental Management System and compliance with the Coastal Decree Law were checked.

In addition, they examined the conditions to gradually align with policies promoted in the country such as sustainable consumption and production, the transition towards a circular economy and the replacement of single-use plastics.

Likewise, in this facility located in the second Cuban sun and beach tourist hub, the main aspects of Law 150/2023 on the Natural Resources and Environment System were addressed, which will come into force soon and will lead to transformations in environmental management. in all fields.

The regulations have the objective of implementing the sustainable development objectives with greater rigor and ensuring that they are incorporated into the strategies and plans aimed at economic and social progress, so that growth in these spheres is achieved on the basis of rational consumption. of the elements of nature.

At another time they discussed issues related to the system of environmental awards and recognitions, once the conditions of the dolphinarium had been evaluated to opt for some that are awarded in the province and the country, which requires continuing to perfect their work to protect the environment, in accordance with the recommendations of Citma specialists.

Workers at the non-hotel facility emphasized that, although recreational activities constitute their main social objective, they also assume a great commitment to the protection of the two dolphins that exist in the place, a female rescued after suffering a shark bite and a male that was born in captivity.

Commercial and economic interests never overlap with the health conditions of these cetacean mammals, so if their physical or mental state is not favorable, participation in the shows is suspended, emphasized Oscar González Pena, veterinary doctor at the facility. with accumulated experience in working with dolphins.

He assured that they also guarantee that the activities do not overload or lead the animals to stressful situations, therefore, schedules and limits are established for their actions, in the same way that the interaction between the two specimens that live in the place is encouraged. taking into account that this link is positive for healthy development.

The Cayo Coco Dolphinarium is one of the main options for the recreation of national and international clients in Jardines del Rey, a destination made up of the Guillermo, Coco and Paredón Grande keys, where 28 hotel facilities are currently located, mostly frequented by clients. coming from Canada and Russia.

This will be one of the extra-hotel options that attendees at the XLII International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024) will be able to appreciate, scheduled to be held from May 2 to 5 in the renowned sun and beach destination located in the north of Ciego de Avila.
