Balancing the expectations of a 2022 tourist high season that is greater than that of 2021 in Ciego de Ávila, and the very complex economic scenario in which the province and the country are developing, is not going to be easy and all the actors involved in they know the process. The check of the insurance plans here revealed the tensions.

Presided over by the highest Avilanian authorities, the meeting reviewed each of the links in the long chain that goes from the reservation and the arrival of tourists to the material conditions that support their stay in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination.

In this sense, the four hotel chains that operate in the Avilanian pole, Gran Caribe, Cubanacán, Islazul and Gaviota, said they have a good booking (rooms reserved) and are currently reconciling and contracting supplies. The great concern is how to move more than 5,000 workers daily to guarantee the service.

The fuel deficit and the technical condition of the Transmetro Company’s fleet of vehicles (below 45 percent availability at its two bases) will force half of the workforce to remain inside the embankment. Representatives of the four chains said that work shift schedules will be readjusted and a considerable part of the staff will be housed in facilities such as the Azul Aparthotel, belonging to Islazul.

The calculations in situ and in pencil by the First Secretary of the Party, Liván Izquierdo Alonso, highlighted an old transportation problem: efficiency. His indication was to thoroughly review the number of people on each trip, the trips per bus, and to optimize the available resources.

All this, even without covering the entire staff of the 25 accommodation units that will operate in the high season. The Gaviota Group, for example, suffers from a personnel shortage, due to the fluctuation of the workforce and the opening of new hotels in Cayo Paredón. This chain streamlines the recruitment and training of workers in essential areas such as technical and maintenance services.

The other high point in ensuring the high season of tourism in Ciego de Ávila comes from the hand of food and beverages. Five agricultural companies and an agricultural cooperative are the main suppliers of Jardines del Rey, but difficulties with electricity, fuel and financing in hard currency add pressure to producers.

Agroindustrial Ceballos, for example, needs 12 continuous hours of electricity, at least every two days, so that the industry can process pre-fried potatoes and natural juices destined for the keys, without economic damage to the entity ─which has not been able to recover of the losses analyzed by this newspaper.

Likewise, it is urgent to honor the debts of Tourism with suppliers of the worth of Martín Alonso and the CCS Reynaldo Maning, especially when it comes to delayed payments due to bureaucracy. Iyolexis Correa Lorenzo, a Mintur delegate here, said that the non-payment is unjustified and the debt will be paid before the start of the high season.
