The Government of Cuba approved a three-month increase in the social maternity benefit, within the framework of national projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy in 2024.
The statement informing about the measure, published on the official Government networks, explains that protecting what is most precious to our family, the infants, is a priority for the Revolution.
They detail that now, mothers and fathers will be able to be with their babies until they are 15 months old.
It is the second time in less than a five-year period that Cuba adopts a resolution of such great benefit to parents.
In 2021, with the approval by the Council of State of the Decree Law on the maternity of workers and the responsibility of families, it was increased and equal rights were granted to working mothers in the state and non-state sectors.
The novelty of this rule was the implementation of the payment of 100% of the worker’s salary, if she had a risk pregnancy, and the elimination of the requirement of having worked 75 days to be entitled to collect economic and social benefits.
