The Life Task constitutes one of the fundamental guidelines in the scientific-technical development of the Morón territory, taking into account its importance for the preservation of the Great Northern Wetland of Ciego de Ávila, second in extension and relevance for our country.
This was stated by the master of science Daylon Fundora Caballero, a specialist from the delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Ciego de Ávila, who pointed out that for the municipality of Morón this acquires greater significance due to the forecasts regarding the saline intrusion due to the rise in sea level.
Fundora Caballero explained that different actions are currently being carried out, such as the rehabilitation of the coastal dunes in the northern keys of Avila and the dumping of sand on its beaches, which should have a favorable impact on the protection of these ecosystems as well as on tourism development.
However, other measures must still be taken to help protect the wetland as the main defense barrier against the effects of the sea, a task in which the Biofood Research Center is already advancing, through a project whose objective is to establish a integrated management program within this ecosystem to achieve its sustainability and adaptation to climate change.
