Several are the results that have been obtained in the project called Integrative Environmental Management with an ecosystem approach in the Great Wetland of the North of Ciego de Ávila, developed by the Biofood Research Center, CIBA, a scientific institution of the municipality of Morón.
According to the statements of Vania Vidal Olivera, head of the CIBA Environmental Management Department and coordinator of the project, the results are mainly related to the determination of the baseline that establishes the starting point in the study of all resources, assets and services that the Avilanian wetland has.
The specialist added that in this second year the fundamental problems have been linked to the large number of institutions that pay taxes to it, which requires all of them to work together in terms of gathering information, however, substantial progress has been made , and it is planned to present the research to an international call with the aim of obtaining external financing.
This project seeks to protect the natural resources of the Great Wetland of the North of Ciego de Ávila, second in size and importance in the country, as well as to guarantee its rational use, hence the results obtained so far constitute an essential step in terms of to protect this ecosystem and reasonably exploit its riches for our own benefit.
