Continuing the recovery of teachers who, for various reasons, disassociated themselves from the educational sector is considered one of the fundamental goals of the educational sector in the municipality of Morón in Ciego de Avila for the 2023-2024 school year.

Yoleisy Valdés Santiago, general director of Education in the territory, declared exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that they began during the first semester of the current year, when they achieved the reincorporation of 130 teachers; and for the next stage a minimum number of 42 is proposed, equivalent to one per institution.

As a strategy —she explained— it responds to the urgency of completing the staff, while each level of education and center deepens this work according to their needs.

The teaching coverage was the main difficulty they faced to start a new school period, due to the rigorous goal of completing the staff for seven early childhood institutions (including two children’s houses), 23 primary level, five basic secondary schools, two pre-university and the same number of Technical-Professional Education centers.

Added to this, she said, are centers for the improvement of adults and language learning.

Of the total of 988 teacher vacancies —he argued— they managed to cover 932, with greater deficiencies in Primary Education, where groups with enrollments of more than 25 students are recorded, circumstances that require the presence of two teachers and against which the increase in the teacher-student ratio, in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Education.

To a lesser extent, there is a deficit of pedagogues in kindergartens and basic secondary schools, which in the same way will be covered with increases in the links between teachers and students, in addition to applying other variants such as hourly contracts.

The Educando por Amor contingent, made up of members of the University Student Federation of the Arley Fernández Moreira Faculty of Medical Sciences, from Morón, constitutes another option to fill the deficit of professors, due to the positive experiences of previous courses.

Valdés Santiago said that Morón is in the habit of starting the school year with a minimum teaching coverage of 95 percent, however, this time it will do so with 93.2, which represents some 57 needs and leads to reinforcing the strategies for recruiting personnel. teacher for the sector.

He explained that the educational sector in the municipality has a total of 2,404 workers —including teaching, insurance, and support personnel— to serve an enrollment of 12,036 students in the next academic year.

In an effort to guarantee the availability of teachers for upcoming school periods, from September the province of Ciego de Ávila will prioritize the training of more than 550 students in pedagogical schools.
