With the creation of the Living Ecosystem Environmental Group for the development of Community Environmental Education, the Coastal Ecosystem Research Center, located in Cayo Coco, took a step forward in terms of environmental protection from a preventive perspective.

The shores of the hotels Tryp Cayo Coco, (Playa Larga), Star Fish Cayo Guillermo (El Paso Beach), Meliá Jardines del Rey and Memories Flamenco (Playa Flamenco), in Jardines del Rey, won the status of Playa Ambiental due to the use sustainable use of the bathing area and the physical, chemical and bacteriological conditions of water.
