According to the statements of Ariandys González González, one of the members of the project, the investigations indicate that the area has gradually recovered despite the anthropic pressure due to the tourism industry, illegal fishing and contemplative diving.
The project, called Paredón thanks to the name of the key that focuses the studies, includes the monitoring of groups of vertebrates, invertebrates and plants such as fish, hedgehogs, corals, algae, birds, molluscs, reptiles, and plants in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
The specialist refers that infractions have also been detected, among which the introduction of exotic species such as rabbits and curies in the Felipe de Sotavento cage stands out, which is affecting the nesting area of birds in this islet, so it is urgent to take measures that contribute to the safeguarding of these ecosystems.
